RB - I checked the Jabro site. The marble sizes are listed in inches - at least that's what I saw. You used the 9/16" size and sorted them into "sorta" 14mm and 15mm lots - is that correct?
Pete

Yes, I think their 9/16" are the 14mm...probably best to just call them and discuss with "Kim"...she seemed to know the mm conversions and manufacturing tolerances like .595" - .615" righgt off the top of her head.

Personally, I won't bother with the 1/2" (12mm) any more...I've got them from a couple places now and there is simply way too much variation to give a good enough yield from a batch to bother with them.

And unfortunately the marble indiustry doesn't seem to make a 13mm that would be close to the .54cal...so the 14mm & 15mm for the .58 & 62 are the only ones I've found that are reasonable enough to bother with...so far.

There are 16mm and they'd probably work in a .69cal

Damn expensive glass balls....um marbles. Current bid is $1200.00. :youcrazy:

Yeah, I got outbid durn it...was gonna use them special marbles for B&C bucks, P&Y bucks, 'Bar, etc

What an excellent idea! Thanks for the tip, roundball!

I would not hesitate to shoot small game (squirrel or rabbit) with a marble. And you are absolutely right - the cost of lead is skyrocketing, so it seems crazy not to search out cheap alternatives for practice.

Excellent safety tip re: using a soft dirt backstop!

Yeah, an its great that the two best fitting marble sizes are for the .58 & .62cals...rifles I rarely shoot due to the cost of the lead balls...but at penny-apiece-marbles I can play with them all day

Man, when I think of all the marbles I had as a kid that looked just like those expensive ones, I think I could have been a millionaire selling them now! Anyway, I suspect that if a guy got a big bag of marbles and used them to practice with, he would be a pretty good muzzleloader by the time he lost all his marbles! :rotf:

I can see it now...the marble thing takes off over the years...the diehard bullseye shooters will only use 'cats-eye' marbles so they can align that colored stripe with the front sight the same way every time...the marble industry starts trading on the NYSE

"penny-apiece-marbles"
Remember - they are only a penny a piece/ penny a shot if you shoot ALL of them. If I have a thousand and only 200 turn out to be shootable in my gun, then they are five cent apiece marbles.
I mention this because I picked up a few hundred 15mm marbles to experiment with, figuring a few would be useful in my .62. In the first hundred, there are none larger than .570 - and only two of those.
Maybe I should have gotten 16mm.
No, I did not use Roundball's supplier - that may have been a mistake.

gees guess you'll jus have to buy a 58! problem solved!

RC - "gees guess you'll jus have to buy a 58! problem solved!"
Don't think that that has not been on my mind.

RB - 5K for $37. I went with a much smaller order because I did not want to end up with thousands of marbles that are of no use to me. I intend to use them only in my .62 (It's such a good idea - this marble thing.).
What percentage of the ones that you have sorted would you say are in the .600 range? My .62 has a .620 bore.

Oh yes, I only ordered 100 each of 3 sizes to test before committing to a bulk order of 5000 like that, although they charged me $15 for 300, close to half the price for 5000 .

I ordered 100 12mm, 100 14mm, and 100 15mm...all of the 15mm's would have worked in a .62cal if it was a true .620 bore.

My GM .62cal is only a .610" bore so I set aside all that were large than .600"...about half of them...but if it had been a .620" bore I could have basically used them all.

Out of the 9/16" / 14mm size, I sorted out everything .575" and above to also use in the .62cal as well...used the.560"-.575" range for the .58cal.

-----if the Feds hear about shooting marbles they will want to regulate them---children won't be allowed to take marbles to school anymore because they are a type of ammunition--- :surrender: :surrender: :surrender:
