I found some .69 round ball at the old western scrounger. I have about shot them all up and would like to find some more. Does anyone know of a cheap supply? Or perhaps some .69 minnies. I really don't want to invest in a mold just yet.

I have a .690 round ball mold if you are interested I can cast some for you. You pay shipping and a little for the material. I have lots of wheel weight lead. Send me a private message if interested

Same goes for me. Hopefully I'll have the .69 mould this week, and I'll be casting too. Same terms.

Hold on a minute..........Do you have a 69 musket?........If you do you'll need a smaller ball than 69. If you have a 12 gauge or a Bess......... then a .690 will do fine.........I'm not sure a .690 will even bare ball down a .69 musket?...........more like a .678 with a patch...........Bob

Yes sir, I use .678 ball and pillow ticking in my .69 caliber Charleville. I use 90 grs. of 2f in it for ball. A real limb trimmer and face slapper. I swear I'm gonna restock that thing one of these days if the Lord allows.

Nope, its a 12 gauge. I've been shootin .69 round ball in it to pretty good results.

LEE makes a .690 round ball mould for around $18. If you already cast, then it would be your best investment. If your going to shoot it often and don't cast, now would be a good time to start as .690 round balls cost around $10 per 25 balls. :shocked2: :(

JBulard is casting me 100 at a more than reasonable rate. I do cast .58 for my Zouave but I figure 100 .69s will last me about three or four years. It took me about a month to shoot up 25 that I had on hand and I'm still not sure I haven't broken my neck or detached a retina. My Cva trapper only weighs about 6 pounds and 80 grains and a round ball is pretty brutal. It seems to like lots of powder and a felt wad, then a patched ball. I would like to thank all of you for your responses. This is by far the friendliest black powder sight around. I think my neighbor skinned me on a mold though, listening to the prices quoted here.

hello mr. 549

first, a large and hearty welcome to the forum. may you be with us for a looong time.

second, don't be to quick to jump on your neighbor. only the lee molds are that inexpensive.

a .69 mold by any other maker will set you back a bunch of money. you may have gotten a bargain.

Well thanks for that, he sold me a Lyman with the handles for less than I could find it listed for.It casts .58s really well if I hold my mouth right.I always wonder about him,we have been horse trading for years.

You pay the postage and I'll send you a dozen .680's for nothing.
