I have come across a 30" .72 cal smooth bore, round barrel 1.250" diam. full length.
I would lihe to attempt to make up a flint fowler with a L&R Durs Egg lock.
The problem! Most all fowlers that I have seen are octagon to round....I don't think I have enough wall thickness to put flats on the barrel, or find a model with tapered round barrel.
I will taper the barrel.
I wish the barrel were a little longer....but welding another ten inches is not the answer.
TOW has a nice English fowler that I would like to copy, but again it is oct. to round.
Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

I don't know if you should be too upset at having a barrel that is round the full length. The barrel length is a bit short but then, you have the start of a rebuild of a military gun that burst at the muzzle. I thnk that a large military lock would be appropriate.

Old ford ,mine is 72 cal tapered round 36" long
I looked at the sea service stuff and the commitee of safety gun at track , and just went from there I used a chambers english lock and french trigger guard and side plate .then used an early american butt plate to match the stock thickness .
you mite have to file the lock side of the barrel so the frizzen can close tightly.
Maybe a bit of a "B"-gun but with 110 grs FF and 1 5/8's #4 it's a real turkey getter at 35 yards!
It also likes 1 1/8 # 6 on top of 70grs
hope this helps
mike
