With 120 grains FFG Swiss, the 335-grain .607” patched round balls in the .62 rifle Mark Wheland made are flat out to 150 yards. Like laser straight. It’s something to see and experience. With regular hunting clothing, you probably won’t feel much more than a shove up to 130 grains. Beyond that, my experience is Be Ready. Truly a dangerous game caliber and projectile. Sir Samuel Baker used a .72 caliber double rifle as his “light” hunting gun. Its powder charge was about 130 grains. His go-to was a one-ounce lead ball single shot rifle that used about 160 to 200 grains of powder and routinely drove through entire buffalos stem to stern. For “rogue” bull elephants, Baker used a two-ounce gun. No thanks. Andy will have his hands full with just the “light” .72 caliber rifle.
