73 cal. Underhammer Update

I just finished browning my new steel receiver, replacing the lighter aluminum one. Strength is a factor, and at seven pounds, I thought the extra weight might be nice also. I got some striped maple from Dunlap

Nice Rifle " BS "
Question ? How do you secure barrel to action ?
Screw barrel to receiver or lock pin ?
Can not see with picture posted.
I " Love " underhammer rifles.

Good looking gun do you have one more pic showing the "brass fore stock" I would be interested in how that looks, thanks MRW

Hi BS - Who made your barrel? I've been waiting since last November for a 75 cal rifled barrel and have yet to hear from the maker. GC

There is a thin under rib screwed to the tube. The tube is held on by the nipple and one screw thru the taper in the front. No holes thru the tube. I saw this design in steel, many years ago. It looks a little funky, but feels and grips really good. I looded at using wood, but didn't like the looks, so I tried this, and am very happy with the results.
There is also a heavy wire that pushes on the rod end.

Old Ford, you can't see how the barel is attached? Just the way I planned it, I need to keep one secret. Just kidding sort of.....there is one set screw from the bottom, Hidden and makes for a smoother looking reviever. :imo:

I have been using this system for just over 20 years now, and still working well even in my aluminum model.

OK, Guys, What do you think of the Brass Tube? Be Honest!

Jerry Cunningham at Orion. I was told that he is out of bussiness, but don't know for sure. Great guy to do bussiness with, he would build you what 'you' wanted. Thats how I got this light .72 barrel. What are the dimensions on your 75 and what style gun is it for.

Thanks BS - I have a flinter 75 and with this barrel it will be complemented with an inline 75 in round ball twist. I just talked to the barrel maker and he has not forgotten me. The barrel is complete except for the breach plug. Hopefully I'll have it done before deer season. GC

I like the brass tube. neat idea. Saw a brass forearm on a Mowry action years ago, but didn't get it then..

Nice work, good thinking and ideas on a neat gun.
