A little bit ago I made a nice calf hide bag that I came very close to keeping but I decided to sell. And of course it sold before I changed my mind. Well my father had a fit when he found out I sold it as he liked it. So I made another for him to take up north and hang on the cabin wall during hunting season.

I cut the pieces out of the calf hide and used mocc weight Elk leather for the rear panel. This time I backed the calf hide with deer leather that I dyed med brown. The straps are old straps RC had sent me a while back thinking I could recycle them. I had to clean them up and rub them down with liquid mink oil. At some point I think I'll attach a powder horn and mount a knife to complete it.

Now thats COOL! Good job! Soooooooo, what did dad say?? cause i'd bet that's sell quick too! nice bag Swampy!! AGAIN!

 I like this one even better than your last one. As always, impressive work.

Very nice Swampy! I have to say I really like the way that Elk leather turns out. Where do you order it from? If you don't mind me asking!

Swampy, you keep on like you're going and one of these days you're going to get the hang of this bag making thing! :rotf: :rotf:

Looks great again! I think the real question now that's on everyone's mind - just what HAVEN'T you made a bag out of yet? Polar bear? Lesser kudu? T. Rex? :hmm:

Dang Swampy. super job on those bags. I'm still getting stuff together to make the one ya sent the pattern for, but it won't be long. Just went to my first "Vous and I'm hooked.

Swampy, great looking pouch but don't expect him to use it. I made a braintan/hemp combo pouch for my Dad a couple years back and he won't even take to the woods. Said he would be afraid he'd mess it up. :rotf: Go figure.

Why is that? I've begged mine to carry it and he gives me the deer in the headlights look. He's one of the most practical persons I know and if the shoe was on the other foot he'd be saying something like " Son, that thing was made to be used not looked at". :shake:

I think if he was better physically it might be different but he can't go to far from the cabin nowadays unless its on the tractor. Also black powder really is just an extra week to the season nothing more. I'm really the only one in the family thats been taken over by this hobby of ours. I did turn on one of my uncles to flinters but his idea of a hunt is getting dressed up in those carbon suits, descented, rubber boots, tree stand and wearing a camo fanny pack with all his guns fixings and carrying his flinter. No problem really, hell I'm just glad hes actually using a flinter to hunt with.

That's a good start with your uncle and given a little time who knows. As I recall the bug slowly crepted up on me.
