Hey all! Here are 2 new knives, please comment or critique! Both blades are heat treated and tempered table saw blade steel. The first has walnut scales and is a 7.5 inch long utility knife. The 2nd seems to be well liked by many and is a tiny little 5 inch patch knife with koa scales. Please let me know what you think!

The large knife has good style for a primitive style knife - I like it. The smaller one has a nice handle but there is something about the blade that don't look right to me -- maybe too wide at the handle compaired to the blade length :hmm: Maybe just me  - I do like a point on my knives not a fan of blunt/rounded ends :v . How does that saw blade steel harden up - does it hold a GOOD edge?

If you said to take one, it is yours, I would have to take the small knife. I am a fan of small knives.

Just what I like.

I like both, but that second one holds my attention more. I do think that I would point that tip. ____ Nice little stickers and made to use!

Rick

Thanks! The bigger one has a good feel to it. The smaller one, I think I will refine the blade shape on my next one, better point, some of the stuff you pointed out. I've made 5 knives out of that steel and so far edge retention is good, I can shave with them when sharpened so I'm happy. I have some 1084 I'm going to start using instead of saw blades. Thank you!

Thanks fans of the smaller knife! I'm definately going to point the tip and refine the shape on the next one I make like that. I made that one for a small handed friend, but all the big handed people like it too! I was surprised! Thanks guys!

You will like the 1084 steel and it makes great flat / vee springs also. LRB has good info on hardening & tempering it.

Thanks, I appreciate that. I'm a member of bladeforums and those guys have lots of good info too, it has helped a lot!

I like plain and simple, they tend to be the most reliable and if you hurt them your not as sad:). Thanks!

I like them both too. The smaller one looks fine to me and would make a pretty good skinner, patch knife, and so forth.

The larger looks like it would be a good camp knife for slicing and processing meat.

They look good to me. A sharper point on the small one would be fine but it is okay as it is.

Thanks! I appreciate that! That's what I was hoping for, glad people can tell! I'll fix that tip Thanks!

I can not offer changes to your style, not my area, can see a few changes I would make it were mine. I like small knives and yours is close.

But was wondering, was the knife designed to go into a sheath and carried on a belt, a neck knife, fitted to the back of a bag, or what?

Was wondering.

Well any advice is appreciated that! That was a possible bag knife...a little sheath on your possibles bag to hold it...or a sheath on your belt too I guess. Thanks!

I have a real weakness for knives and hand made things. I was wondering what it was made for.

I am intrigued with "neck" knives but with getting older I have some what a reluctance of a knife around my neck. I fell several years ago in the dark and managed to break 3 ribs protecting my rifle.

You do nice work, continue on, you have talent.

Well....both are nice knives, but seeing I'm a utility guy, the larger of the 2 is my choice. It would do well in elk camp and also in the field for skinning and cutting up an elk for transport.

Have only built 3 knives and one was my first folder. Knives are an interesting build and the good thing about building knives is that you can see the light at the end of the tunnel....whereas LRs seem to take forever.

Again....nice work.....Fred
