I just recieved a copy of the 2005 Spring Shooting Supplies from SHOOTER'S .
On page 12 they are offering a TRADITIONS ".50 cal precussion gun with a real wood stock for $119.97 + shipping. (Members price is $107.97)
This gun is called a "Springfield Hawken Rifle" and does not have a Set Trigger.
It has a 28 inch barrel with a 1:48 twist. Hooked breech for easy barrel removal and no patch or cap box.
I think this is one of the "made in Spain" guns which is similar to the old CVA Hawken rifle.
If so, it doesn't have bells and whistles, it is a plain SideLock precussion gun using a side Drum rather than a Patent Breech but for a starter gun into this great sport of Muzzleloading, it will (IMO) work great.
If it is like the old CVA low cost gun it will shoot very accuratly with the right load.
The trigger pull may be a little rough.
In it's favor, it does not have that UGLY adjustable rear sight the old CVA gun had. It shows a simple U notch sight (which most people would rather have anyway.)
"Shooters" gives the part number as AX5A-90224
The website given on the catalog is
www.sportsmansguide.com
By the way, I tried the link and it works. If you enter AX5A-90224 into the little search window at the site it will take you right to it.
Again, I'm not trying to sell you anything but I've tried site links before that didn't work, or the "deal" didn't exist and I thought I would save you the trouble of checking it out.
