There's a few guns and rifles that I've always wanted. Most are out of my budget.

One I've always wanted and few examples exist, is a combination short sword and flintlock pistol.

It's beyond my skill level to make. So, I'll be farming out parts of the build.

I purchased a sword that will be used for the project. Now for everything else.

Many historical examples have the flintlock design so that the flash hole goes in from the top. I believe that they're called tap locks. Several of those are screw barrel also.

Neither of those are designs that I am proposing to use.

My initial thoughts revolved around blade length.

A full length sword would be unwieldy in the woods. I want this to be functional. Too short of a blade really makes it a knife. And you want something longer than that to dispatch a boar.

To eliminate the need for a tap lock, my current thought/plan is to use the sword blank as the lock plate.

I will then have the barrel mounted to the sword.

A lot of this is theoretical at this point.

I'm also thinking about having the barrel coned. I don't think that there will be clearance to use a short starter.

Loading alongside a sharp blade will also pose a different set of challenges.

Hence, why I believe that a lot of them were screw barrel.
