I have finished my Lancaster and will be posting a few pics as I was asked to do and as soon as i can i will post them. Until then i have a couple general questions. For this type of rifle which would be the best nipple? The one that came with the rifle is already caput. lol. Is there a better one that will not go so fast. It takes a 1/4 -28 thrd. Shorter one or longer cone? Next i was wondering what you do with the bare wood under the barrel and all around. Do you oil it or cover it with something or just leave it bare? Cleaning the barrel im worried i will damage the bare wood somehow and the metal will not fit as well. Last question is the only thing i sort of screwed up on the rifle was the rear sight. A little loose but still does not move during shooting. How to secure that once i have it sighted in? I have heard of red 271 super glue or solder it any other remedies?

THank you all for the help.

I'd stake the rear sight once it suited me. Shouldn't take much to hold it steady if it isn't moving when you shoot it. As far as nipples go, I like the 416 stainless ones from Track of the Wolf. I tend not to overthink those much and will just tack a few onto a larger order when I'm thinking about it. Info here:

You can peen the dovetail in the barrel with 3/4” to 1” socket. Lay the socket across the dovetail and then lightly tap the socket with a hammer to tighten up the dovetail. Tighten it up before you sight in.

Here are a few pics of the rifle. Military motif from my younger days in service. Could be better pics but not a pro at photos.

I like your personalization. You have a nice stain job so just need to seal it now. Although you can use a one part finish-sealer, it is more common amongst our members to use an oil and then wax it. I have used boiled linseed oil on my rifles. Apply the first few coats with a rag and then use my bare fingers after that. Allow each coat to dry at least 24 hours before applying the next coat. Keep applying until the wood does not absorb any more. This may be from 5-10 coats. Once fully dry I buff it with a dry rag and then apply a paste wax. This yields a satin-matte finish.
