I just sent him 2 renegade barrels to be bored .54 and .58 and just told him to give me what he though was best for round ball only.

Quoted me $125 to make my manure shooting .36 traditions a .40. He suggested 1/48 twist and when I send it I will let him select the most accurate twist. BTW he said he would return any $$ not needed, $125.00 was high ball he said.

I talked to Bob today twice. He is a great guy very pleasant to talk to on the phone. Im sending him one of my rusted TC hawken barrels and he is taking it to 58 caliber. He recommended 1 in 60 twist and told me the same 125.00. Its on its way tomorrow. I will be like a kid at christmas waiting for its return. Al

pretty much the exact same thing he did for me. he smooth bored a T/C .50 to .54 and installed a supplied flint breech plug. Prime work.

Yep, he received two TC barrels from me yesterday. One to bore to 54, add new flint plug and the other to ream out for a 54 smoothbore. Looking forward to getting them back.

Interesting choice, is/was this barrel a 50cal 15/16?
I ask because I had him do 1" T/C into .62 smooth and a friend has a 15/16 that's a 50 smooth. We where going to send his but my friend backed down when he said he could only go 54-56 with it.

i spoke to today . I was going to send a cva 50 cal for a rebore to 54. he will no longer do any cva barrels. hes stated that they are impossible to get the breech plug out, without damage.

Thanks for sharing that, it should be part of this thread for future searches.
The Spanish barrels with a side bolster have been cross-drilled and indexed, cutting into and through the breech threads.
The pro's won't do it because of the damage and liability issues. Folks should leave those alone.

Both are 15/16 inch barrels. One was 45 and the other was 50. The 50 is the one that will be a smoothbore. He said 54 caliber was about it. I am leaving it up to him as I told him go the maximum caliber he feels safe with so will probably be a 54 smooth. Possibly could go 56 depending on the depth of the dovetails and rear sight screw holes.

What necchi said bears repeating. The CVA/Traditions proprietary breeching system is a. Very strong and b. Best left alone. I will occasionally read a post by one of the "kitchen table gunsmiths" that populate our sport (hey, we all like to tinker) and it always makes me cringe when they describe the breech plug alterations they are making to their Spanish gun.

Spoke with Mr Hoyt this morning and told him I got his contact info and great recommendations from this forum. He asked if I could pass along some info for him as he doesn't really do the computer thing. He has relocated and his new address is
2379 Mt Hope Rd, Farfield PA. Also he is quite slow right now and turn around time is very quick. Got an outstanding deal on 2 renegade rebores.
Thank you for the update.
