I agree also. I wipe the frizzen and the flint. Especially the bottom of the flint. The bottom takes the brunt of the burn residue. Semper FiI agree! Rock tight, clean & sharp, frizzen clean. Good lock and it will go boom.

New to me Thanks !An old friend, Cayugad, RIP, showed me a little trick to knap your flint. Take a #10 common nail, cut off the point and file a little notch on the end. Then placing it along the edge of the flint strike it with your short starter. Works great. I keep it in my field tool bag.
i do the same thing. but cleaning the blood off adds another step.Since I was a kid, I wipe the frizzen with my thumb and then top and bottom of the flint. Yes, I wrote my thumb on my pants.
I had some joker go on, on another forum, about how you can’t do that as oils from yer hands blah blah blah. He said you need a plastic squeeze bottle of alkiehol to clean it. I asked if they had squeeze bottles of that, back then. Guess what, your thumb will work fine.
Ha Ha, reminds me of a BSer friend who made hundreds of muzzleloaders..........He said "a GOOD flintlock will go off upside down underwater"i do the same thing. but cleaning the blood off adds another step.
lends a new meaning to fouling !Ha Ha, reminds me of a BSer friend who made hundreds of muzzleloaders..........He said "a GOOD flintlock will go off upside down underwater"
In other words leave the blood on.

Never had that. I wipe away from the sharp edge like a knife. I forget in todays world, you have to tell people not to run their finger along a sharp knife blade.i do the same thing. but cleaning the blood off adds another step.
