Mike, I am trying to gather the parts for a Fusil de Chasse. I read on one of the forums a while back that you have an original fusil de chasse If my memory is correct , with a barrel that measures about 1 1/4" at the breech. I just bought a barrel from Rice Barrels with that breech size. Would you please tell me if your fusil is the hunting gun or other french gun? My barrel weighs just under 5lbs which seems a little heavy for a gun that's supposed to be sleek an light. The barrel is 20 ga X 44".

Thanks
Jack

That's very heavy for a fdc barrel.
Larry Horrigan in Michigan will make you an exact copy of a 1740s fdc barrel for reasonable terms.
I use that pattern all the time. It came from my collection. It will make about a 7 lb. gun if you do your part.
At the breech of three fdc barrels, I think 1.12 inches stick in my mind as about average.

Thanks to all of you for your replies. I guess when I get a few more dimensions, I'll machine this club down to size.

Thanks
Jack

Thanks for the information . Could you please tell me the length of the barrel flats?, A good picture of the wedding band would be great. If I had this info I could machine this large barrel down to size.
Thanks
Jack

I have three fdc barrels. Two from tulle,o e from St. Etienne. They vary in dimensions slightly being they were hand made. But otherwise they're pretty close

This is the average for all of them. And the measurements from a Horrigan barrel that he makes for me.
Tang length, 2.25 inches
Barrel length, 44 inches
At the breech, 1.12
At the muzzle, .730
Octagon length to wedding band, 10.5 inches , the 16 sided flats are filed after the wedding bands have been made. They are approximately 2 inches long, then leaving approximately 10 inches of octagon showing
Breech to muzzle is a straight taper.
Width at the muzzle,.730 inches

If the octagon flats are 10.5" long and 2" filed to sixteen flats that would leave 8.5" of octagon, correct?

Yes file them by hand. They look better. Mill them and it looks like a centermark
Which by the way is not a period correct arm. First thing which is wrong is the barrel..............

Thanks Alexander for all the info. But just to be clear, If I understand you correctly and putting it into my words, It is approximately 10.5 inches from the back of the barrel to the wedding band. you first said wedding band, then said wedding bands leading me to think there are more than one wedding band, sorry but I'm confused.
Sorry to be such a bother but I don't want mess up my expensive barrel.

Thanks very much
Jack
