As I ready my gear I can't help but think a real live Mountain Man might well :rotf: looking at all my kit, back up kit, emergency kit

Good lord I have more blades then a pirate movie  I bet most things I have two of he would have left at home.

Ah well, it's the time honored, lay it all out and start putting stuff I don't need back :idunno:

I have never had many knives. Last winter I got into making some and now I have several.

Oh SURE Ron, I tell you I have too many knives and you show us a couple that anyone would make room in their pack for. If I told you I was on a diet you'd show me photos of the cake you baked :cursing:

:haha:

Fine examples of the kind of knife that SHOULD be on an elk hunters belt.

I have a cabinet full of knives and just recently acquired another couple I will never use.
Then you show us one you made I would trade some private parts to have. :shocked2:

I have too many to choose only one to put on the belt :haha: they go into the day pack mostly ones made by myself.

This year while arranging the pack for bow season I was disturbed to not find the Green River buff skinner :( Ya think the other five will be enough? :haha:

Here is a dutch oven Chocolate devils food cake with Marshmallow and caramel frosting.

Here is a picture of the first four I made. I hand make the birds eye pins and the mosaic pins.
They are a little rough.

Here they are with the sheaths.

This is my Fillet knife I also did. It has birds eye pins (the silver center is brass) and hand made Mosaic pins.

Here it is with my utensil set for my camper.

Ron...love those knives! While its always hard to tell by photos, those look to have a fairly short blade, which is exactly the kind I like to use.

While I like to look at and admire well-built, long-bladed knives, when it comes to actual use, I'll take one with about a 3"-4" blade anytime.

I like Drop point short blades for gutting and sinning. The longest of mine is 3 1/4" and the longest is 3 1/2".
I am about to start work on a pair of capping knives. The steel is 154cm. One is very small over all length of 5" for small game and capping. The other one is going to be the same but slightly larger overall length of 7" for capping and skinning larger game.

I was going to compliment you on the knives and, especially, the pins. Then I thought: "he probably buys the pins somewhere."

Then I read a little further, where you hand make the pins... as if the knives weren't special enough.

What can I say? You do nice work.

I have so many knives that I don't even know how many knives I have. I just like 'em. :surrender:
It's very rare that there isn't at least one on me.

Nice work Ron. The 3rd one from the top in the pic of 4 looks like it would feel real good in the hand.
Perfect size for a deer gutting knife.

Ron, those knives are sharp!

154CM is one of my favorite steels, especially for the money these days, but I'm a little surprised at a traditional knife maker using it.

I blame my 26 year old son for my knife collection I have now. I was under the impression that all a person needed for a knife was a $25 Buck folding knife from Wally World. After all, I had field dressed countless deer over the years with them and was perfectly happy. Now I have parts laying around to make several more knives and enough old factory mades to choke a horse! Oh good Lord......when does it end? Greg :)
