A stocking stuffer patch knife for my sidekick (SIL)

My wife's father was a barber and we ended up with a few old straight razors. Since I would bleed all over the bathroom counter if I used one to shave , I decided to make a patch knife.
Nothing fancy, but effective.

They do, I have used one for many years.

May give it a try. I have my uncle's razor. Been wondering what to do with it. I had been using that same uncle's Barlow knife as a patch knife.

Many, many years ago I let a barber shave me with a straight razor. Never again.

I understand that certain brands of straight razors had some pretty good steel in them.

I get one or so , from flea mkts., if I need 'em. They hone up easily , and are grand patch knives. I really like surgically sharp knives.

An old neighbor gave me a box full of those things about thirty years ago. They were old then…. I might dig them up to check the possibilities to do the same thing.

Mine has stamped on the blade "J.A. Henckels Twin Works, Soligen, Germany. I think I read somewhere that the quality ones were made in Germany. It also has 102 stamped on the blade.What does that mean?

I believe that's the grade of stainless steel used. Could be wrong.
