I received in a trade a Uberti & Gardone 50 cal hawken rifle. Would anyone know or have any info on this particular gun? It is in fair condition and would like to refinsh it. It is a good shooter. The barrel markings are
A Uberti & C Gardone V.T. Italy. I would be very greatful for any information.

I believe what you have may be the "Santa Fe Hawken", can't say without more info but that sounds right. I haven't seen them listed in years but seem to recall a .53 caliber. BTW, Gardone is the address, not part of the maker's name.

Don't know about the gun, but if you check the proof marks against the ones listed from Italy in the link below, it'll let you know what year it was made...

Uberti makes good stuff. I seem to recall that the Santa Fe hawken was a good gun. Congrats on your find.

In addition to the markings you mention, mine has Western Arms Santa Fe NM .54 cal. [actually a .53] I can't say how well mine shoots yet, I had some patch shredding issues, got those worked out but haven't had a chance to really shoot it much yet. It seems to be really well built though.
