Just obtained a TC Hawken and the screw that holds the hammer to the tumbler is broken off, and leaves nothing to be grabbed by pliers. Does this mean I have to drill it out and re-tap to a larger size? Is the tumbler likely to be of a hardness that makes this a bad idea? 'Preciate any advice.

If its a T/C, its under a life time warranty. Send the lock to T/C and they will repair or replace the tumbler, and fit a new screw.

Instead of all the aggravation of removing the broken screw, just order a tumbler from TC?..Fred

Send it back to T/C,

Don't screw with it,
If you do more damage, they will not replace for free because you did more damage to it..

SEND IT BACK it will be like new and if is a older model it will be up dated.

I agree, send it back to TC.

The tumbler is about as hard as the drill bit you would be useing to "drill out the old screw" but it would probably end up damaging the existing threads.

The hardness also makes drilling and re-tapping it beyond something that the average person should attempt.

Guys: I appreciate your advice. I sent it back to TC today. They said they would indeed repair it at no charge. They are about 8 weeks behind, though, so I won't be making any smoke with the Hawken for a while. Need to get some gardening done anyway ...

Perfect example of the benefit of having a spare lock assembly on hand
