Out of curiosity, I sent a note to Ryan Gill regarding his use of Coral stone for arrow heads...wondering if the stone was softer than flint for possible use in a wheelock dog (Note: I would never use flint or fire sticks)...his comment:
"Coral wouldn't work for you either unfortunately. It's a cryptocrystalline rock just like flint. It's actually a bit harder yet than traditional flints."

Question for the wheellock builders. Do you make an extra wheel for future use if the original wears down?

I'm a little unsure exactly what constitutes these fire sticks, could you please clarify to help this old codger's understanding?
A fire stick is that stick used to scrap against a knife blade of similar object to create sparks into tinder to start a fire in primitive conditions.

Like Sam says....If your Wheelock-lock is top quality built....The wheel should outlast your shooting days if using Pyrite...look at all the 400 year old survivors! I have garnered enough good pyrite to last my children and future grandchildren!
