I would like to know what bullet size to shoot in a green monuntain rifle barrel. It is a 54 cal. but hornady I know makes a 530 and a 535 round ball for the 54. I looked on green mountains web page to see if I could find out the hole dia. but with no luck. My gun is a percussion using pinnicale Goex powder. thanks for any help.

.I have one like it on a full stock hawkin I built from a T.C. Hawkin, bore has cleaned easy since new.I shoot .530s with a .15 patch and 60 grains fff for targets and 80-100grs fff for Elk and Deer. They load nice an have match winning accuracy. Dick

I cast and grade my own .535 add .015 patch between 95 and 105gr 3f lets me put the ball wherever I want to with my Renegade.

I believe that GM suggests that bore size balls are the most accurate in their rifle barrels. Of course you have to look at what shoting situation your in too. The bore size would be ideal if shooting competition. If your hunting then you might want to drop down to a 535 with a .020 patch or if a .015-.018 will give good accuracy then go with that.

Been shooting GM Barrels exclusively since the early 80's and haven't found anything else that will shoot as good as me!

Got Hawken?

As some possible reference info:

I don't happen to have a GM .54 rifled barrel but my TC .54's are very accurate with .530's & .018" pillow ticking......535's are hard to start.

I do have a GM .58cal and .570s are extremely accurate in it with .018" patches......575's are hard to start.

My suggestion would be to start with .018" pillow ticking and a box of .530's.
