When did it start to be drank. For the most part I lean toward barly when drinking, with a 'wif of grape' every now and then.
I dont pay any mind to peoples trenchers and cups in camp, and although I try to ear hc food I have beer in camp a beverage that didn't travel well back in the day. But I'm thinking this was middle 19th century. I do hope it taste better then gin.

OK Cleaned the sink well enough then and left a pleasant scent. Still won't drink stuff with stuff in it. Wines either -- I presume they've turned and shoot them.

So Absinthe is legal and grits has never been banned -- insanity.

Got a party-size bag of bite-size Tostito's chips and a jar of Herr's mild salsa right here in front of me with some Lightly Sweet Oak Brewed Arizona Black Tea that has no floaters in it, why do you ask?

I agree with you on the barley, the true source for "the water of life" - preferably the single malt. However, of late, I have returned to the straight Rye as being more HC in my neck of the woods, and not loaded down with the taxes of TWO countries. And I do enjoy the taste...'though nothing beats the best single malts.

I will follow this thread closely...I may have to try this absinthe (which I heard of many years ago). Turns out, most of the stories vilifying it originated with people who were opposed to any strong drink.

Depends on the chip, if Frito-lay makes it you can keep it. Some of the blue corn chips are ok. Usually I just break up packaged pre formed taco shells for chips. A good chip is hard to find. Fritos just about kill me. I swear animal feed would be better than some of the stuff on the market. Maybe it’s just me but I have taste buds that QC would die to have and a nose that puts a blood hound to shame.

yes, absinthe is legal here. you can buy it from many liquor retail stores like Bevmo, DrinkupNy, and a few others. there are a few brands that are actually pretty good depending on your taste. La Fee, Kubler, and "Pacifique" are some of my favorite, they're a bit pricey, but when it comes to absinthe, ya get what ya pay for. :2

I like Turkish Yeni Raki as it has been stored in the "worm" barrel and is more powerful. A little Raki with water sure finishes the day well. :stir:

I learned to drink that while stationed in Turkey. Brought some back and my Dad tried it. He was out shooting hoops with the neighbor kids. My mother said it improved his performance and kept the bottle when I left!

HA! Because often those corn chips are merely fried grits, NOT fried corn meal... so you DO LIKE GRITS...given enough cooking in oil, salt, and some salsa on the side!

We now return you to the discussion of potent potables....

Just reading Bobby burns he said "Some hae grits an can no eat, some would eat that hae ne, but we hae grit and we cae eat so let the laird be thankth' or words to that effect...I have it on good athority he was drinking a pint of some form of malted barly at the time
