I'm looking for a patch puller, bullet puller, cotton bore swab and brass cleaning brush for my Enfield, pattern 1858 naval rifle. 58 cal.
It seems they all have 10 x 32 threads. I think the threads on the ram rod are different size.
Where can I get a connector for it?

Thanks.

I'm thinking of this powder measure?

Most BP supply places carry those converters..."The Possible Shop"...advertiser at the top of the forum...probably carries them...If not, try www.octobercountry.com

And just as a possible alternative:

Unless the ramrod has some particular PC value and can't be changed whatsoever, if it was me, I'd redrill/retap the ramrod ends to 10/32" and use all 10/32" accessories as they're stronger, and of course you wouldn't have to fool with a converter...

You will want to double check the thread size of your ram rod on your Enfield. If it was made in Italy more than likely it has a 5.8 millimeter (metric)thread size. This thread size is very close in appearance to 10-32 SAE size but the two are not interchangeable (and forget about using a tap unless you want to buy a new ramrod). There are about four sizes of threads used on Civil war reproductions. 10-32, 10-24, 5.8mm and 6mm. These are the ones I have encountered and I would not be surprised if there were more.

I would recommend that you get a good range rod, solid brass that will match with a bullet puller and worm you like. There are several sources for these items. Dixie Gun Works sells range rods and Thunder Ridge Muzzleloading sell great range rods.

If you must have a worm or bullet puller that will fit your ramrod I suggest you get them from a suttler like Fall Creek Suttlery or Blockade runner. Call them and tell them what make and model Enfield you have to ensure you get the right thread size.

One other option. Once you have found the thread size of your ram rod you can use a adapter that will adapt 10-32 cleaning equipment and worms ect”¦ to your (probably)5.8 ramrod. You can get these at Dixie Gun Works and Thunder Ridge MuzzleLoading. These adaptors cost about six bucks.

By the way, I recently went out and bought all new cleaning and bullet pulling equipment because I was tired of none of my stuff being interchangeable.

You should use a Zouave Flask that comes with a 60 grain spout with your Enfield . Dixie Gun works sells them.

Being new at muzzle loading I also need accessories without breaking the bank. First I bought a $5 8-32 dies from Ace and threaded the end of my Zouave ramrod. I also bought a $0.85 aluminum threaded rod coupler and a $1.50 package of woodscrew/8-32 screw. Now I have a ball/patch puller accessory that fits the ramrod. For bronze brush and swab, I am using a 20-28 ga shotgun brush and swab with a shotgun/8-32 adapter. This set cost me about $5. All in all I spent $15 TTL for an 8-32 die, bullet/patch puller, 8-32 F-F adapter, bronze brush, cotton swab and shotgun/8-32 adapter. Not bad for going cheap.

Just a general comment: There are ramrod accessories and there are ramrod accessories.

Those that tend to run a little less expensive do so for a reason...they are typically 'crimped' into a threaded adapter...and its not uncommon for them to pull loose, leaving the accessory stuck at the bottom of the bore.

Those that cost a little more have better quality attachment designs to the threaded adapter, usually designed so they go through a hole drilled crossways in the threaded adapter itself for a positive hook up rather than simply being crimped in place.

The difference in ramrod adapter quality truly is one of those real life examples where 'we get what we pay for'...my suggestion would be to never use crimped on accessories and always use the larger stronger 10/32" sizes unless you're down in the tiny .32/.36 calibers.

Others mileage may vary...

Be sure to pin the ferrules on the end of the ramrod that hold those jags, and other tools. Otherwise, you will find yourself holding a bare stick, and the tools stuck in your barrel some day. Glue is not enough- even epoxy-- to hold metal to wood for these purposes.

Skimping on tools in never a good choice. But the best you can afford, and when you can afford better, buy and replace the ones you have.

Gorilla Glue is the strongest I have used to fix ramrod issues. I pulled the worm off glued it back with GG, a year later it still works.

The 1853 Brit Enfield has that funny bell shape, with the slit thru it for a purpose. That is your cleaning end for holding your patches. Now if you go to www.blockaderunner.com you will find under musket parts a privates tool (no this isn't for you) :rotf: . This tool has everything a civil war private needed to maintain his musket. The price is not cheap but is it is the most authentic that is around. If you read the description you will find about a lot of info.
I just bought one with some found $$ and will be carrying it with me to events.

I agree with Roundball; a few years ago I got fed up with not having the right thread accessories along for the particular rifle I was shooting at the time. I drilled and tapped all the 8-32 rod ends for 10-32 accessories (and made sure the ramrod ferrules WERE pinned). Now there is no hunting for the right size. I have made up 8-32 to 10-32 and 10-32 to 8-32 adapters, but there again I was always hunting for the right one in the bottom of the shooting box. Better just to standardize. Emery
