i was recently handed down from my great grandfather 2 flintlocks he acquired in istanbul they are both roughly 3/4 inch diameter and one seems to be sawed off and has a bronze axe head on it. the other has a flared end and both have engravings and fancy embellsihments.
the sawed off doesnt lock at all.
but the flared end locks at half and full cock, but the hammer is released by the trigger from half cock and i was wondering if it was made like this or if the sear rusted to apoint that it doesnt hold the hammer? also what should i put on these guns (the barrel finish is a nice rust) to protect them from the 90 percent humidity over here? any help is much appreciated.

Leave it to ole Clint to be using a one hand hold on a 4 1/2 pound Walker!

I almost expect to hear him say
"These are Colt Walker Pistols, the Most Powerful handgun in the world and they will blow your head clean off..." :rotf:

I think there is a scene earlier in the film where he does a border roll with a Walker in each hand. Those Walkers seem to be missing their front sights?

If ye leave on them pesky front sights you're sure to rip out lint from the ole belly-button with a fast draw from yer sash! :blah: :rotf:
besides which, they scratch up them holster thingies the young guys are wearing now!! :youcrazy:

I just got out a couple of my Walkers and tried holding them out like Clint did. Because they balance nicely, it isn't that difficult. But my border roll needs a little work...

I don't think that the lock would even have a half cock position if it wasn't there to hold the hammer back.

One traditional rust inhibitor that you may try is boiled linseed oil.
