My second attempt at a kibler kit after goofing the first. Tried to keep it pretty simple and within my skills. Basic walnut stock. Did spend some time with files on the brass cleaned things up. Birchwood Casey Super blue on the steel bits and barrel. Works alot better with heat (available locally also used to tarnish brass a little) . Left lock in the white while I waited on a vise.. but dont mind it. I don't know if my finish is good enough... I sanded down with 220 raised the grain and light sanded 6 times. Put 6 coats of truoil on it(two a day, morning and night) buffing with 000 steel wool between coats and wiping down with microfiber. One light coat of permalyn.. buffed again. It seems to bead water ok. I did finish the barrel inlet with a coat of truoil. Gun shoots very well sights as centered as I can get. There's some porcupines outback in the stone qaury on short notice

The ramrod got an experimental finish dissolve steelwool in some vinegar to get it dark. Didn't come out dark enough so I used oak charcoal from the woodstove colored it with it. Buffed off the excess and coated with beeswax.. actually broke it trying to straiten it a little so had to repair it and seems to be holding up ok. New ones on the way

I don't blame you, inquisitive pups can wind up in a world of trouble with those things around. Vets are expensive!

Not at all, it was my first and inwas very much wanting a rifle to shoot..In general I just rushed the process. Messed up pins resulting in bad pin holes and small splits in the forend.. less than perfect buttplate fit. And the rear dovetail wasn't cut completely on the barrel so I took my first attempt at filing in a dovetail where I should have reached out to the manufactuer. All on me just in a hurry

Thanks, I'm just starting my first SMR kit as of yesterday. So far, I took about 90 min (of on/off effort) to get the barrel and trigger inletting just right. I'm hoping the (barrel and pipe) pins don't give me trouble. To be honest, free drilling for these are the one thing that keeps me awake. The video's help but it still takes a leap of faith in the end, right? I figure if I have issues with the sight dovetails, I'll focus on filing the sights vs the barrel. I notice they sell replacement sights pretty cheap so I'm not likely going to be the first to mess one up. Lots of fun already though.

The drill bit guide thing kibler makes is awesome and makes it much less stressful. Cleaning out the pinholes after finish seems to help a ton. I think I might end up ordering a .36 or .40 barrel for my smr

The cold blue is starting to fade to Grey already on the barrel near the lock just from scrubbing. It ain't perfect but I like it!
