has anybody added weight to their stock to get a better balance point ,see I put on a 58cal. barrel and the balance point is to far out for my short arms instead of cutting the barrel down ?maybe another way

HERE IS WHAT I DID TO A RIFLE THAT WAS TOO MUZZLE HEAVY...Take off the butt plate, then drill a Half inch hole centered in the stock toward the wrist.I drilled 8 inches.Clean out the hole, then drop some .490 BR's down the hole. put in maybe 4 0r 5 to start, then some cotton balls or whatever to keep the balls in place. Mount the gun, check the balance, then add or subtract balls until you get it. Then when your SURE it's balanced, I filled the hole (except 1/2 inch) with epoxy. Let set for a day or so,then cut a 1/2 inch wood dowl to plug the rest. Put on the butt plate...OLSON

As the others said, you can add lead to the stocks butt but keep in mind this added weight will cause the guns muzzle to rise more than it did.
If recoil isn't an issue that's fine but many years ago, I added about 1/3 pound of shotgun pellets to the butt of one of my .50 caliber rifles.
Where it had been a nice gun to shoot before my "fix", afterwards, the recoil would rotate the gun upwards causing the comb of the stock to give my cheek bone a good whack every time it was shot.

I drilled 2 holes about 5" long. I used a .58 cal ball, a lil sand to fill the void around the round ball, another ball, a pinch of sand, etc. Put in 2-3, check balance, as 2-3 more, check again. When I got it where I wanted it I filled the rest with a loose dowel & sand around it & left about 1/2" hole, and filled the last 1/2" with Microbed.
Worked good, no rattle & easily removable.

My T/C does this anyway, with no mods. It shoots very well and I love to hunt with it but I can't shoot conicals out of it for this reason. I come away with a bruised face. Any idea on how to correct that? Would a new stock with more drop help?

There is a product out there that reduces recoil. However, the rear stock needs to be hollow. Basically, its a tube filled with mercury. Yep it adds weight but when it recoils the liquid counters the felt recoil.

Do you know who makes this? I also contemplated putting a full lenght stock on it:
1. to increase the weight forward a little
2. because I like the way it looks.

This is a hunting rifle and not my Rony rifle so historical accuracy is not important.

I'll have to do some research. I believe I saw them mostly for shotguns but will work for other guns too. I'll check and get back to you.

For now look at Midway USA part #138587

Here is what it says.

100 Straight Dead Mule Recoil Reducer fits Stock Bolt Hole 7/8" Diameter x 4-1/4" Long

This mechanical recoil reducer installs in the stock bolt hole and reduces felt recoil for a more comfortable shooting session. Fits Perazzi, Beretta, Krieghoff (some modification required), Winchester 101, Beretta 301, 302 or 303, and other stocks with 7/8" or larger stock bolt holes. Bolt hole may have to be widened.

OK here is a link to another site that sells a mercury recoil reducer. Also put Mercury recoil Reducer in a search engine and you'll get quite a few hits.
