Rather proud of myself! I have been searching for a possibles bag and dont really want to settle on something cheap...but, hunting season is 3 days away and I dont have the funds for the bag I want! A friend of mine gave me a Chinese AK-47 shoulder slung magazine pouch, Light O.D. green with belt loops also. I removed the 2 center dividers and left one on either end. My flask goes in one and my short starter in the other. That leaves reasonable room in the middle for my lubed patches(In plastic snuff can), speed loaders, projectiles, capper, etc! Great hunting set-up! and best of all free :)

I have a Swiss Army surplus engineer's bag which has been the pouch for my .32 until I come up with something different. Been about two years so far......................watch yer top knot...............

One of my pards uses a claymore pouch. Slickernsnot.

I've got one too, but am inclined to dupe it in leather rather than use OD canvas.

Ah, memories. My first shooting bag was a canvas M-14 magazine pouch.

I still use a surplus Swedish(?) gray canvas "bread bag" as my haversack when bowhunting or cat'ridge gun hunting. (Shown under my left arm here). For years I did all of my fly fishing out of a similar Swiss gas mask bag.

Mil Surp is great, cheap gear. Just watch out for the gas mask bags that have an open side for fast deployment (instead of top opening).

Sounds like a good idea. Mountain Men adapted to what they had on hand. Sounds like You are of to a great start.

A friend of mine used to use a very old, 50rd drum pouch from a Thompson machine gun as his possibles bag. :patriot:

You guys are great! Thought I was gonna get blasted for using "non-traditional gear". Was real careful where I posted this! :blah:

As long as you ain't passin it as original - no complaints. We used to have a real Army & Navy store locally and for the first handfull of years I went hunting I could as well have just come from the dumpster at Camp Dix. M-65 coat, six pocket pants, watch caps, wool socks, musette bag, canteen, etc.

It's a great way to start and makes a LOT more sense than buying a bunch of mismatched "authentic" stuff. Once you know where're you're headed - THEN buy or make your good gear. Or not. I still load up the web gear when headed out for a chuck hunt or when taking my gun for a hike.

Recurve bows, muzzleloaders, and a few friends. It don't get any better than that. Great picture.
