for those of you who missed the fun of a previous post titled "Evaluating Used Navy Arms Sheriff..." i have good news, we have a winner.

my personal thanks to all who helped - zoni, madcratebuilder, mykeal, bakeoven bill, mazo kid, wetpowder, their friends and relatives, and anyone i might have missed.

late last night, very late (4-5am), after nearly 15 hours of posting, testing, phone calls, more testing, reading, researching, more coffee and smokes, more posting and testing, i finally threw in the towel and put the piece back in the box to be returned sometime this weekend... but that little voice said, "check it out one more time..." so i did.

barely visible, on the bolt side of the leaf spring, i found a hair-line crack in the metal that totally fell apart with i went to remove the bolt screw for a closer look... that is why the bolt failed to engage the cylinder and all the rest.

we, actually, you all were right the first time and all the way through... so, all that for a measily, little $3.95 leaf spring - can you believe it ! !

the good news is that dixie has a replacement, and it's on the way, and i'm back in business with my navy arms sheriff .44, and i owe you all a big one.. too bad i'm as broke as an ol' hound dog or it'd be pizza and brewskies for everyone.

if nothing else, this is proof that we are a community - for real.

i thank you, one and all, again and call me if there's anything (except borrowing my lemat) that i can do for you.

sincerely,
 ~daniel~ :hatsoff:

We've all been there. Once you've been inside these things a time or two (or three or four) you'll get the hang of it. Fortunately, parts are readily available and not too expensive so home gunsmithing isn't that onerous.

Ya did great daniel, by this time next year you be cutting and crowning barrels on your kitchen table.
Wiley E Coyote School of Gunsmithing #1 rule...Always grind on the cheapest part.

Glad it was as simple as that & yes many of us have been there a few times.

Shoot straight & be safe my friend.

Ummm....we wouldn't mind having to wait a bit for the brewskies....we understand being broke....I mean, we ALL understand that.
