Nice use of hat but what's that white stuff all over the ground. Must be that snow stuff folks up north talk about. :haha:

I found a .54 CVA Hawkens for a friend's first muzzle loader. I started him with .530 balls, pillow ticking patches and 80 grains of FFg Goex. He was all over the target at 50 yards. Tried different powder charges from 60 to 90 grains, but still the same. We were about to give up, so I pulled out another horn loaded with FFFg Goex. Told him to try 80 grains of the FFFg and he shot a 1" five shot group. He was one happy camper! Goes to show you that no two rifles are alike. The CVA's I've seen may not be top of the line, but they are all straight shooters. You've done a beautiful job. Tou're going to enjoy it

Thanks folks, hats a Hanna's hat. Check out their web site, real quality stuff.

Can't wait to get it dialed in. Three months ago I couldn't tell you much about these rifles now its all I talk about. Driving my wife a little nuts to be honest.

My other interests have me as a member to several other forums, but none are nearly as willing to help, share knowledge, and overall just be good folks as here on muzzleloader forum.

Thank you, I look forward to many years of making smoke!

I have one of those in 54 cal. ,bought in a pawn shop yrs ago all rusted up 50 cal barrel was shot had holes in it for scope mount, got a new 54 barrel from Tip Curtiss ,refinnished the whole gun, shoots good with 80grns FFg Goex pillow tick patchs mink oil lube.It is a real handy gun to hunt with, the first deer I shot with it was at about 30yds knocked it down right there he did twich a little.

Bought it off eBay $95, I didn't want to go with a used barrel and they were selling for more.

I'll check those sites out. Thanks

Now ya know it may not be strictly kosher, but it seems to me that , that rifle is just begging for a Lyman, or similar flip up sight.
It really is, trust me on this.

That would be nice, pretty spendy though.

My dad mentioned he had some sort of peep sight, might wait to check that out
