Gary Test won the match with a 2.44 match record score. Neil Eddington was 2nd, Dave Krumme was 3rd.

I was waaaayyy lower in the hamburger class.

I was there, and bought a box of .490 round balls off the gent as had them. My friend got some .457s. These should keep me a while but does anybody have the gent's contact info?

If I can find a good load for my New Englander, I may try the match out next year. Looked like a lot of low-key, laid back fun.

Saw that last night. Ol' Gary did all right. And using Paul's rifle. Maybe I'll break down and make it back next year. I figgered you'd been in the flat meat this year. Hope you get to make it to Roundbottom in May. I'll probably use my flint gun again. Did pretty good at the turkey shoot last fall. I can shoot shorter strings with my hog rifle than I can with the chunker.

After practice ended, I had a 3 shot triangle group and two shots to the right. I put the first target in the center of the triangle and my shot hit right beside one of the two shots on the right. I missed the scoring ring completely. Next shot I moved the target to the right and hit about 3/8" off the x. Next shot went way low and missed the scoring ring again. After that the sun came out bright and I started shooting 3" higher than the other two groups. I should have chased but didn't until the last two shots and had 6 shots completely out of the ring.

Bobby Grim and Bill Disbro didn't make the flat meat either. Bobby won a silver cup for being the first one in the hamburger class.

Yeah, despite what everyone says, sometimes you just gotta chase the X. Ol Bobby can fall in a pile of well, you know, and come out smelling like a rose. I'm surprised neither he or Bill got some flat meat. Those guys usually do alright. I saw several top shooters come in lower than usual. But I also saw some that had been struggling before get in the meat. Unlike most shooting sports, chunk gunning is one where anything can happen and just about anyone can win. There is no real consistency. Those fellers that normally place high can have some bad shots and some of us also-rans can find our sweet spot and you're talking upset. Gary has been a consistently good shooter the last few years and I'm glad to see him get the big one. Maybe one of these days you or me will get lucky.
