Hello again. While I’m posting I may as well get some input on the second pistol I picked up decades ago, which I suspect may be American, but no markings except a #1 on top rear portion of barrel. Nice looking wood and given the collection it came from, I’m hoping it’s Penn. but that’s just hope, no info to lead me one way or the other. Would welcome any thoughts on this second piece 😊

Very covetable😇
Could be either and the wood would be an indication but I once had an English sporting rifle that was stocked in birds-eye maple and had German silver mounts including a crescent butt plate, it may have been for the American market, forget the maker but remember he was one of the lesser known ones.

I wondered if the #1 marking indicates it was once part of a dueling set. My uninformed judgment would tell me that would tend to suggest an English maker, vs. American, as I’d think most of the American makers were making utilitarian weapons, as opposed to fancy dueling pistols. Having said that, I guess in certain circles a dueling pistol was a necessity as well!
