Just got my new Gpr .54 perc. What's the best way to clean out the factory "gunk" in the barrel? I did a search and didn't find much about it.

Thanks

The Butch's Bore Shine that came with the gun seemed to work fine for me.

After swabbing with solvent to get rid of lighter oils/grease, I used JB paste just because I had some on hand. Seemed to work very well, but some of the other recommendations are probably at least as good. Whether it had anything to with using the JB, the time of day, the phase of the moon, or blind luck, my "shoot in" period was very short for my 54. It seemed to settle down and really shoot consistenly after only a few rounds.

Lots of good recomendations here. I personally start with some heavy duty cleaner which is most of times spray brake cleaner and lots of soft rags and patches to do the bore. Then I go to Butches Bore Shine or good old Hoppes # 9 then some pressureized gun cleaner (Gunscrubber is what I like best). Then oil it with kroil and let it sit for a day. Then clean it for the next couple of days until its clean. I do not use Kroil as a preservative when storing for more than a week.

I have to say when they spray that brown stuff(at the factory) on the new lymans ,seem you can clean it for weeks and you still keep getting it on a clean patches or rag's,after wiping down the m/l.

I ended up using Rem action cleaner and about 50 patches. Also used a bore brush after every 5 patches. used a patch worm down in the breech. Now I hope we get some decent weather to go try 'er out this week.

Thanks for the replies.
