.54 cal. 15/16"x36"green moutain barrel
Plain maple stock cut from 3"x10"x38" plank given to me by a friend . Got two stocks from plank.Rough cut the stocks on metal band saw with course blade , and high speed
Squared the forstock with table saw and inlet the barrel with router and 3/8" straight bit. Not on Router table Had the stock in the vice and did it from the topside with a fence (home made)on the router.
Lock will be Large Siler Flintlock, single trigger.
Did the carving on the stock ( first time for me) while waiting for barrel.

HHMMMM. :hmm: I've never carved a stock before the lock or buttplate were on before. Keep us updated how that works out.

I know that's not the way you are supposed to do it but I had some idle time and wanted to try my hand at the wood carving thing . Besides the blank was a freebe . I have built 3 from blanks and quit a few kits. I have been a custom saddle maker for 35 yrs. and find that I can pretty much use the same tech. on wood .

By the way Mike I am glad you didn't leave the board . I have learned a lot from your posts.
Thanks. :hatsoff:

Arrgghh!! your all killing me, I want to get my Hawken started (have to get it first) but I'm in the middle of another project that needs to be finnished first (long range pistol Bbl for contender).

I'm itching to get an authentic pre-1840 Hawken in 58 off the ground.

Your stock work looks sweet will be watching to see this one grow up :hatsoff:
