I found a RB mold at a local gunshow over the weekend and was wondering if it might just be the one for a TC 56 cal smooth bore. It is not marked TC and wasn't in a box. All black and marked 552. It is single cavity. I am sure it will work for the 56, just wondering if it was TC's mold.

Did it have any handles? if it did'nt it might be a Lyman Mold. They usually single cavity and steel.

I have a tc .440 mold. Only difference I see in mine from the other is the tc is purple.

I had a 56 SB. The bore was .564. With a .552 ball it would require a patch on the order of .006 to .008. This size may be hard to find.

Is the mould aluminum? The older TC moulds were anodized aluminum and the # on them had nothing to do with the size of the mould. They were just numbers to match the two halves and keep them together.

How old is old?
I sold TC molds going back 45 years. They were simply Lyman molds packaged as TCs and were always iron/steel. The numbers only sometimes indicated the ball/bullet cast.

I have no idea how old they are but I have 3 or 4 all bought used. All aluminum and all with marks that mean nothing as far as the mould goes. They are basically the same as lyman basically and use the lyman handles. I also have an odd one that is for the 54 with a RB on one side and you flip it over and has a full WC conical bullet on the other. Also most have vent lines on only one side of the two halves. They are fairly common to find still usually in the conical style.
