As am new here I thought I would start with a question. I just received a used T/C New Englander in 54 cal. When it arrived the wrist or grip area of the wood stock was broken from the trigger on both sides staight back along the grain line about 4 or 5 inches not broken in two peices but close. Is it worth trying to steel bed or glass bed the break to fix it or just get another stock from T/C and if so do I have to send the rifle in to T/C for a factory fit. What are my options.

Thanks for any help

TC will replace the stock assembly free of charge...but yes, you'll need to return it to get that free exchange...and I'd suggest sending it to the attention of the TC Service Manager...

First off, welcome. Roundball is pretty much the T/C expert around here. A friend of mine had a T/C Hawkens with a crack in the stock from the lock bolt rearward about 3 ihches. He sent it to T/C and got it back in a few weeks. They gave him a new stock, lock and hardware. They even threw in a new ram rod. The only thing that wasn't replaced was the barrel, which was in great shape. After reading a lot here and seeing how they treated my friend, I had to go out and get one myself. Just do as Roundball said and you'll be one happy camper  .

Thanks, that is great information and very fast responce. Mailing it out is the best option as I see it. It does bother me a little to have TC pay to fix something that was not their fault. For all I know it was damaged in the mail. Well I'll see what TC says.
Thanks again and for the welcome.

DITTO!

Can you tell if it was a kit or factory produced rifle? I don't think that they cover the kit stocks, do they?

I am not sure how to tell if it is a kit or not. It has a brass ramrod, sling studs, and a steel butt plate. With a round brl.

Look in the barrel channel. Unless I am mistaken, they liked to stamp a K there for the kit guns. Some of the kit guns also got a K serial number on the barrel.

When I sent my gun back T/C wanted the whole gun, to make sure your barrel fits ok so you will not have to resent it.

A few years ago I broke the stock on my Renegade, and had bought a Hawkens the had a broken fly.
I tryed to purchase the parts but TC had me put the bad lock on the Renegade and ship it to them, even though the stock was broke, from mishandling and the lock came from a pawn shop gun.
Received it back with a nicer stock that the original and everything worked great. Can't ask for more than that. Bernie
