Here is a rifle that I believe could be put back on the line. It is a half stocked Ohio (?) style. 36 rifle. The .32" X .980 barrel has a rusty bore with very good rifling. After scrubbing with a wire bore brush, brown rust powder comes out. I have seen this on lots of antique guns. From long storage, not fowling corrosion. Metal looks pretty smooth under remaining rust. I believe a good bore soak with Evaporust will yield a very shootable bore. Surface of barrel is a finely pitted brown patina, much like a heavy rust browning seen on many contemporary muzzleloading rifles. The drum is broken and stub will need to be bored out and tapped for a new one. Hammer has some moderate pitting. Holds cock and the double set triggers work. Lock is lightly pitted and marked HC COOPER. It is missing a wood screw. The stock is generally solid, but has a crack at toe and slightly deformed buttplate from a hard drop in the past. An easy fix. The trigger guard is cracked at rear screw and has some kind of adhesive on it. With a little work, this could be a reliable shooter. $190 + Shipping.
