SOLD Antique .410 smoothbore ** Shooting Shape!**

This is my last antique that I am letting go of. This one is actually in shooting condition and the bore is clean! Expect some very light pitting. The previous owner had it slathered in grease, so the bore is clean and smooth with some light cosmetic "pitting" if you'd call it that. Smoothie does use Musket caps. Late 1860-s1870s. Pretty fancy furniture on this one. Barrel is 37 1/2" long. Front bead sight. Wood is in great condition. Completely unmarked. I took the barrel off, Nothing, lock has nothing inside or out. Lock and triggers function strong and smoothly. Does not have a ramrod. ** This is NOT a cheap monkey gun ** Please check out the pics and pay attention to the details put into this smoothie.

Note forward area of the lock panel, A very small tiny crack. This looks more like the wood grain openings up, does not go all the way through stock.

What/how much did you shoot out of it?

It was around 1/2 oz #7 bird shot. I used 2 felt wads on top of the power, loaded a home made card board card, then dumped in the shot and added another cardboard card. I personally wanted it for shooting a patched ball but had to try it a couple times with the bird shot for fun. I used 40gr 3fg.

Have you shot round ball with it? What are the sights like?

very low profile front blade sight only, no rear. Have not shot round ball with it as I do not have a mold of the proper size. If the weather is not to bad tomorrow I plan on taking a few shots with it on video camera.

Was the forearm cut or was it made square and is there a ram rod groove?

What is the brass"blob" on the lock plate below the nipple bolster?

i have no clue what that is. I thought it was a filled crack but after inspecting the lock inside and out i can only think that it was some type of inlay of some sort.

Stock does have a ramrod access hole.

Hope to get out shooting tomorrow. It was snowing all day today.

Based on what can be seen of the barrel, no thimbles, and the ram rod hole, it may have been a full stock that was cut back. Interesting but I'm going to pass. Good luck on your sale. Thanks

Not a full stock. No wear marks on the sides of the barrel nor any file marks where a barrel tenen would be on a full stock.

Forgot to upload the pic into the video. Notice the plate was turned one way for the first shot then reversed for the next shot. No load work up, just 40gr 3fg shutzen, 280gr worth of # 7 1/2 shot at 25 yards. A little load development and this one make one heck of a little bird gun.


After shooting it more today, I am standing firm on my price. I'll never be able to replace it with one like this or in this solid condition.
