Just finished this one this afternoon. I am going to give it to a friend. It throws 80 grains and was stained with Rit dye. The shaping was done with a conbination of flat, round, and triangle files. I used a dremel for the dot pattern and a homemade tool for the scratching. I hope to get a couple more done up in the coming weeks.

Take care...Steve

Super nice job!
I've got a lot of old antlers lying around, I've been thinking about trying my hand at making a measure from a piece.

Beautiful work !! :applause:

About how long does it take to do the scrimming ??

Just curious ...

Steve, very nice looking measure. Do you have a photo of your tool you use for the scrimming?

Thanks for the comments men .

Hey tuxdad, I probably spent a total of six to eight hours on the scrimming. I have to go slow so as to stay on my lines. I also sometimes put patterns on antler using a v or u gouge and that goes much quicker.

Hey mazo, I do have a pic of that tool. I don't know how to post a link to the page that shows it, but you can view it on pg 17 on this very same crafsman section.

I have seen things like yours on other sites, and yours rivals the artistry of any. Nice work!!

Thanks Mike. That means a lot. I am humbled by your comment.

As for powder chargers, I think Wick Ellerbe is the master :) . Those two that he posted on here last year still blow me away.

I found a web page two years ago that featured a guys antler chargers. The carving and scrim work was amazing. It is where I got some of my influence. I have not been able to find that site for quite some time and remember nothing about the guys name.

Take care my friend!
