Having retired after for years having just 2 BP guns, a matchlock shotgun and colt cap and ball, now I been acquiring a few for my leisure years. My plan is one for each decade of the 1800's.

So far
the 00's: AnIX Gendarmerie tiny .60 Napoleonic era pistol (Pedersoli)
the 30's: double barrel 12 ga. percussion CVA
the 40's: Colt Walker (Uberti)
the 50's: Philadelphia derringer pair (Spain)
the 60's: Colt 2nd gen 1862 cap and ball (had long time).
the 70's: Colt open top in .44 Colt (Uberti)
the 80's: Colt SAA in 32-20. (Uberti)
the 90's: H&R tip up .32 S&W long (original)

I'm looking for guns from the '10's and '20's seem harder to find. The Pedersoli Mortimer saw handle target pistol is from the '10's (I would guess) but really I would like a long gun. All of the above cost under $500, except the percussion 12 gauge was $650, dang long guns are expensive!

Sorry, let me be the nosey one to ask...

You are retiring at age age 36 or 37, is that right? And, if so, do I understand correctly that you are complaining longuns are expensive!?

Dang, I'm afraid my "leisure years" aren't going to occur until I'm six feet under.

@ Alden...

Sorry, had me birthday wrong.

He trabajado para el gobierno nacional. :haha:

And we retire after 30 years, age no matter, thanks to you all and your generous support every April 15th.

Hi there...

A low price gun in the 1810-20 years would have been a NW Tradegun...but since you mention reproduction, even trade guns are now quite expensive :-( Maybe try searching for a used old Dixi mountain rifle, those were quite period correct and not too expensive.

cheers
Uwe

The An. XIII cavalry pistol went into production in 1807 but most were made 1810-1813. Don't know if that would work for you. Pedersoli has one but it's $675. I've thought of getting an An. IX myself but can't justify that expense for a handgun right now.

the bottom line is; everything is expensive.

You might luck out and find a used gun on various gun auction sites, or the rare pawn shop in the west and to the north. But why must iron and wood cost more than a dental extraction?!
