Any BP powder restrictions in NY?

On another site a guy said he thought BP ownership was limited to 5# in NY but didn't know for sure. Anybody have first hand knowledge of any NY laws in affect to limit the possession amount of BP in that state.

I was recommending places where he could buy in bulk when he mentioned possible restrictions.

5 lbs per legal shooter in household.I don't believe anyone could be totally legal in NY,just because of ambiguous laws and interpretation of local and state agencies.Good luck!

Well, actually the laws in California are pretty vague.
There are sections that clearly speak of a 1 pound limit but it's not clear if this applies to a household.

There are also some exceptions that have caused some in California to say it is really a 5 pound limit.

Then, on another website I found this quote written specifically about the California black powder limit question.. I don't know if it is true or not.

"§ 555.141 Exemptions.

(b) Black powder. Except for the provisions applicable to persons required to be licensed under subpart D, this part does not apply with respect to commercially manufactured black powder in quantities not to exceed 50 pounds, percussion caps, safety and pyrotechnic fuses, quills, quick and slow matches, and friction primers, if the black powder is intended to be used solely for sporting, recreational, or cultural purposes in antique firearms, as defined in 18 U.S.C. 921(a)(16) or antique devices, as exempted from the term “destructive devices” in 18 U.S.C. 921(a)(4).

In cases like this, it's probably best to get a letter regarding interpretation from your local police chief's office, or DA.

Taking legal advice from those not on retainer is dangerous counsel.

seeing as your vote isnt going to change the laws. how do you propose to fight?

i ask because my state isnt far behind and im sure in the near future this place will be like NY. as far as im concerned the onley way to have rights is to move to a state where a majority of people arent willing to give them up.

in the time of the revolution things were different. a majority of people either didnt like the british or were neutral on the matter. in this case a majority of people want to ban guns (in certain areas). so if anything, the people who want to own guns are in the same shoes as the loyalists were in the rev. war. (an ever shrinking minority)

there is no mistake, we will lose our rights to own firearms, its just a matter of time. with every generation of children born they are less and less interested in firearms and the right to bear them. many of the die hard believers in rights and self defence are aging with no one to take their place.

Petitions, boycotts, letters, e-mails, word-of-mouth, post on forums, be a good representative of hunting and shooting, say my prayers.

Votes will eventually help . . . though in NY an upstate vote doesn't carry very far.

Turing tail will solve less. You'll eventually run out of places to go.
