Recently built a rifle using the Davis Twigg lock and she's a bit picky about flints. A 7/8"x1" as recommended by Davis just isn't quite long enough. A 1"x1 1/8" for musket, Lott, etc fires beautifully but every one I've ordered has been excessively thick for those big locks and the Twigg jaws are at their limits. Does anyone know of a member or vendor that might do some custom work? A 7/8"x1 1/8" with reasonable thickness would be spot on but not headed to any trade shows till the Spring to pick through some flints.

Rich Pierce would be a good choice he made a dozen for me that were longer. but he retired then started making flints again then over loaded with orders. Might check w him to see. Don't be turned off because the flints are white, I even hunt with them.

Thanks. Another member mentioned him in conversation, hopefully he sees this post. I hate to contact him blindly and don't have his info to boot.

Can you not just move the flint forward a bit in the frizzen and then tighten? I've done that.

Nice guy. He won't mind an inquiry even if his 'real' life prevents him from making flints anymore.

Exactly...moving it forward an 1/8" would be a fix...can even put a small piece of leather or "dowel" behind it if that helps hold it in place "out there."

Another option would be to have the cock/hammer reshaped a bit for better geometry, if that's the problem.

I presume you mean move it forward in the jaws, since the frizzen is what the flint strikes against. And that sounds like a quick and simple fix to me. If he puts a piece of a twig behind it and locks it down, it should work fine.

I've been shooting a lock like that for years, and had the same problem you are working through when I first got it. I figured out that a regular flint 7/8 x 3/4 works without any problem when wedged forward in the jaws with leather.
