Hi,
It was made in Niort, France. I cannot make out the maker's name but it begins with "MOL". Also the word Leune, which means moon in French is on the lock and barrel. The sea monster with crown on the butt cap might have something to do with the French king ruling an ocean empire. Without a full view I cannot date it other than likely from the 18th century.

I'm pretty sure that this pistol was made by "Moine Jeune A Niort", or Moine the younger of Niort, France. He was a fairly prominent maker in this region, which is just north of Bordeaux. I was in charge of a chemical plant there about 20 years ago. Despite my interest in antique firearms, none of the locals had much interest. At that time it was a major center for insurance companies and the like

The crowned serpent on this pistol is similar to the unidentified escutcheon recovered from an early 18th century Indian village. They look similar enough to give me a place to look to identify it.
