Hunting turkeys with a rifle is a very touchy subject in many circles. A lot of hunters think it's akin to shootin' 'em out of a tree or killing a deer in its bed. Personally, I don't hunt them with a centerfire rifle, even though we can. This is for the fall season only. In the spring, it's shotguns only.
I chose the flintlock because it adds a certain challenge to an already challenging sport. I do not snipe them at great distances. I still try to call them in as close as I can before shooting at them. However, they sometimes hang up on the fringe of good shotgun range (I like to think it's because of the orange we must display at our calling location :winking
and when that happens, this gun does a fine job.
As most everyone knows, it's not about the kill but about the hunt. To me, this makes it a very enjoyable time. You can imagine the looks and comments I get when I encounter another hunter while out hunting!
Stay safe!
