Howdy all. Just wondering if any of my fellow Texans will be taking to the field this deer season, and if so, then what will ya'll be carryin?

I'll be taking my Flint GPH all season, along with my .44cal 58 Remington (with target sights), for puttin' any finishing shots that might be needed on a feral hog.

Can't wait for it to get cold enough that the bore butter doesn't flow like wine! :imo:

I'll be doing most of my hunting in Boerne and Woodson, TX on the weekends. Now if I could only get rid of Friday classes I'd be set. :front:

Howdy Jake,

Hmmmm, small world. I'll be hunting about ten miles west of Woodson, and will probably also hunt the Boerne area this year.

I'm going to carry my Jack Garner fowler but will make sure my GPR gets some hunt time in too.

Now remember, M-W-F classes are bad and are best avoided during hunting season. :redthumb:

Right on! I just have yet to figure out how I can squeeze 15 hours into T-Th classes.....one day it will happen.

Woodson and Boerne too huh? Sure is a small world. If we're up around Woodson at the same time I wouldn't mind grabbin' a cup of coffee and shootin the bull for a bit if you've got the time.

Good luck and watch yourself. Everything up in this part of the country will bite, poke, or stick ya!

My brothers and I have a lease in Goliad County. I will be hunting with my Isaac Haines 54 flinter and new Brian Turner 62 fowler. I can't wait to see what the big round ball does on a hog.

I'll be hunting in Jack county with my TC Renegade .54 cal. I'm hoping to get a shot with it. Just got it last year and haven't hunted with it yet.

Good luck to all.

Not to be a wet blanket, but if the areas you hunt in have muzzleloading season, the 58 Rem.or any other BP (revolver)is not considered a muzzleloader under the game laws.It has to load through the bbl. to qualify, not the cylinder.I think it's a lot of B.S.just watch Your step.I carry mine with me hunting, but keep it out of sight.I hunt in Huspeth Co.2nd. largest Co. in Texas.

Hmmm.....Kendall County doesn't have a ML season. I'm not sure if Throckmorton has one or not. It's worth checkin into though. Many thanks for the heads up.

Jake

Just checked to make sure. Shoot no we don't have a stinking ML season. Ahhh well. I rememeber we did for a little while, but no more.

I'll be hunting with my T/C Hawken 50 cal. Side Lock. North of Fort Worth in the L.B.J Grasslands. The Grasslands is Muzzleloader or Shotgun only. :front:

Ill be using my recently acquired Centermark fusil de chasse. This will be my first time to hunt with a flinter. I am hunting in North East Texas (Red River county.) I have some information that may be of interest to you traditional muzzloading hunters that yearn for a special "early" season. I am in a deer management program called MLD (Managed Lands for Deer) I have 360 acres and am part of a Coop that has a total of about 20,000 acres. Not all of the land is contiguous but most is. By being very active in this MLD program over the past 6 years we have obtained Level III hunting privelages. This allows us to begin hunting OCT 1 and stop in late March. Any legal weapon can be used and any legal deer taken. What this boils down to is that I can hunt with my muzzleloader starting Oct 1 and avoid the crowds. If you are interested contact your local wildlife biologist and ask him how to go about obtaining Level III MLD. BTW, you dont need a thousands of acres to get this done, but the more of your neighbors you get involved the better. Some individuals have gotten this achieved on 2 or 3 hundred acres alone. good luck all.

Just stay out from under my secret hidyhole tree :haha: I'll be up there after a week long stint down around the orange area(lease in newton county).
I wonder if that thick browed 6 point is still there, my brother and myself both missed him last year- he is one serious string jumper.
Good luck to ya, and watch for them turkey!

Hope to be huntin' in Fredericksburg (Gillespie County) with my Lyman GP .54 caplock, PRB.

Hammerman / Robert58,

How can I get some information on hunting the LBJ lands? I don't live all that far from there, and am always looking for new places to hunt.

Thanks.
