Don't want to side track the thread but another interpretation of:
"The amount of British stuff we could get in our shops prior to 4 years ago was pretty comprehensive. We hardly get any now except at hugely inflated prices. Spread that across 20 - odd other European countries and that's a hell of a lot of British business....."
.
Looks alot like:
"Bend the knee or pay the price"
Nothing but good old fashion extortion.
.
Never mind, I forgot that when a Governmental body does it it's not "extortion".

A lot of UK residents would be happier if they moved to the US, but getting any of them to give up that infernal National Health Insurance is almost impossible under any circumstances. They could buy health insurance here on the private market with the money they would save not having to pay the UK taxes and lower cost of living. And the medical care here would better and faster.

"The ICC’s move has sparked divisions, with the United States denouncing the warrants and some U.S. allies pledging to execute the warrants. The European Union’s foreign policy chief on Saturday reminded the bloc’s member states that they are obligated to enforce the warrants",
.
Sounds like the EU feels entitled to control more than just 'trade deals'.

I was totaly against the Common market it was a sell out smack in the face of the colonies who gave their all in three wars only to be disadvantaged in favour of Europe mostly composed of old enimies and inefficient farmers By Ted Bloody Heath & his twenty pieces of silver Yought morning Cloud . Wellingtons" a whif of grapeshot" seem befitting it cost me & all brits our birthright disavantaged such as Aus & New Zealanders . I landed in Freemantle after overlanding to Ceylon in 1966 I had a whole three pounds to my name but it was just like walking from one English county to another . Now its all visa poop thanks to the Common bloody market .My Sister lives in Spain .The only Spain I knew was Franko's incidently the ovelanding though Asia was so common it was deemed "The milk run" no border asked for onward tickets or visas funds ect whitch was fine by me as I had just 16 pounds to go from Milan to Bombay . Today it a political mess same as the West Africa & travelled 8 mounths in 1965. Today you couldnt do that . Sad world .I wanted to go to a shoot in Alberta Ide been in the states but at Buffalo the Indian border ***** considered I hadnt enough money refused me might birth right Damn East Indian LET & Hinderance . I couldnt tell her Ide hitch up to Cartier & hop a CN so by days end with luck Ide be half way to Alberta .All the Canadian border seems stacked with negative border bods Its like they pick them from the most negative pratts they can find .wasnt that way when I lived in BC Western Canada. It wasnt shiney pants burocrats made Canada it was Ruffians of my sort that did .not East African rejects.
Rudyard the ruffian
Why is it you never moved to the US?

I think Britain’s main problems are two-fold : They never broke entirely free from the EU, and the Socialists in the UK government and voters still oppose free market participation and support socialized medicine.
Britain used to be a leading manufacturer and exporter but they have hamstrung themselves and can no longer produce goods at competitive prices.
Sad, really.

It’s still a green and pleasant land , but cold and wet though. I did not like the EU politics , and “ England will do what it’s told” I voted leave. The EU is the looser Sorry to loose the freedom to live in France , but equally we can have more say over our borders and immigrants. No more fortress EU. Life in uk is great . Yes are national health system is great , no complaints. Of course our gun laws suck. Such is life Have lived in Nigeria and Oz , but glad to get home at 81.

The loss of freedom of speech in the UK and Commonwealth countries is as alarming to me as their encroachment on people’s desire to own firearms.
I started to say “right to own firearms”, but I don’t think Britain has ever acknowledged that as a right of their citizenry.
They don’t like the idea of a possible citizen uprising against an oppressive government.

I live in the EU (Gun laws are great here by the way). In no way is the EU the loser - in fact they are glad we have gone, as we were always a troublesome member country. In any case, despite what the Brexiters told us, EU countries do have sovereignty. Remember when Hungary refused the EU request to take Syrian immigrants? The UK on the other hand, who left the EU to control its borders, had 780 thousand; Yes - nearly a MILLION legal imigrants last year. Britain was only 'told what to do' according to influencial newspaper owners who stood to gain by Brexit. Many of the 'EU Regulations' the Daily Mail etc were so keen to get rid of were protective laws on water and food quuality, and were proposed by the Thatcher government. NATO on the other hand does tell us what to do. Should we leave that next...? The NHS is rubbish by the way. I worked for it for 36 years and when I took early retirement from it 6 years ago it was falling apart then. EU countries have a far better mostly privatised system which resembles that of the US.
