heres the page from the catalog on the mountain rifle as you can see it says walnut stock, the barrel is 32" with a 1 in 66 twist got that from traditions.

I "dunno" at one point the mention "sellect hardwood stocks" then they mention "Walnut Stock" but actually they show tiger striped wood stock, not very common on walnut, but more common on MAPLE.
Make me doubt a little?
Perhaps Traditions are trying to up-grade their products.
Most of their stuff is questionable "my opinion"

Bernie, not to disagree with you but it says Walnut/Matte, this could refer to the finish. On the left in the list of features it says highly figured select hardwoods stock and forends.
Once apon a time I got beat out on a custom cabinet job. I bid on real hardwood cabinets. The guy that got the contract bid on real wood cabinets and when they were delivered and installed they were real wood, (sawdust and glue).
The lady who had the cabinets built took them to court and the judge ruled that indeed it was real wood, with a (little glue thrown in for good measure)! :haha: Pay the man for the cabinets and their installation.
Seriously if those stocks are truly Walnut with a figure like is shown in the picture they might not be to bad a price.
Traditions is a shooter or at least the one I have is. My biggest kick was quality control. If this rifle is no better in that respect I do not see it selling for the price they have it at.
If the quality is improved and the stock is indeed walnut with the figure shown in the picture then they will do OK at that price.

It looks like their advertising copy people haven't improved. In one place it says it has a 1:66 twist and in another it says 1:48. It seems that for the price they are charging they could at least get their story straight.

cliff i still have my old stock from my pedersoli tryon and it is striped walnut but the guy who had it before me cut the but down thats the reason i got the curly maple stock see pic.

That add can't seem to decide whether it's a 32" barrel with 66" twist or a 28" barrel with 48" twist but either way the "24 1/2" select hardwood ramrod" is going to be a bit short. :haha:

I had one...I stripped the finish...it was beautiful under the "paint"

When I talked to them, they said that they had bought out the last of the A&H parts and were building the rifles with them. We know the A&H parts won't last forever, so at some time they will need to start making their own. It could be that the first guns they made, and the one they took a picture of for the catalog are the same maple stocks that A&H used. I believe that Boyd was the maker of them. Traditions may be switching to walnut when the maple runs out. I'm curious how the guns will end up. I have always just loved the A&H guns. I have a couple that I wouldn't trade for anything.

-----maybe they should look at their product before they make up an add----- :rotf: :rotf: :rotf:

The ad also says"No part of this catalog may be reproduced without written permission of Traditions". Looks like some of you are about to do some hard time at forced labor-building in-lines. :nono:

Smokey Hills,

If that was to happen to me I'd say "just shoot me with one of Zonie's guns". I'd rather go down that way :rotf:

ranger: If you want to end it that way, be sure to ask to go with "Ole' Painless". :rotf:

(That's the same gun that appears at the bottom of my posts  )

Zonie,

Guessing from the pic that's big medicine for any critter 2 or 4 legged. It would never know what hit it. By the way now that it's mentioned could you give us a full size pic of "Ole Painless" in the appropriate forum sir? Kinda got my curiosity up pard.

Jay
