Had a yardsale Saturday and a guy was looking for 28ga. wads.He told me he uses them in his 50cal. with shot and a wad on top for turkey.Anyone every try this and if so what loads did you try.If this does work,I wouldn't mine trying it for rabbits over my beagle.

If you fire shot out of a rifled barrel you'll have a donut shaped pattern.

Did he tell you how he get them down the bore. They are a bit larger than 1/2". I cut cards for my .56 Smoothbore with a 9/16 circle punch, I imagine I could get them down a .50 caliber barrel, but have never tried. :hmm:

If your gun is rifled, the rifling will throw the pattern out to nothingness in just a few yards. I've tried different methods over the years in pistols and rifles, muzzleloader and modern and haven't found anything that works very well. Paper shot cups seemed to work best, but at that, it was still pretty unusable.

I've gotten the same exact result as Plink. With a .50 and a .54 rifled barrel, I've shot into large pieces of cardboard at about 5 yards or so and the pattern is unrecognizeable. A little here and a little there.

I have used 20 gauge (.62 cal.) wads in my .58 caliber and they loaded without any problem, but I used them behind a PRB, not shot. They did seem to help the group a little.

410-er,
I know some might disagree but I just don't feel
shooting shot from a rifled barrel can be good
for the barrel:hmm: IMHO
snake-eyes:hatsoff:

I've not tried it in any muzle loader, but I load #11 shot between gas checks in 44 spl cases. It would probably kill a grouse out to maybe 12 feet or so. I've tried it in other cartridges, but cannot get a pattern past about 5 feet. If they are loaded with a real week powder charge, they will pattern better, but ' bounce backs' become dangerous. If his barrel was worn out it might work? Paradox rifling has been tried with success, but that involves ruining a good barrel.
