Aqua Fortis / nitric acid sources

I am looking for a source for some nitric acid so that I can start experimenting and making wood and metal finish test pieces in preparation for my first longrifle build.

Where can I get it?

Here's two I found that sell small quantities (click on them to link to their websites):

The Al-Chymist - $20/liter for 70% Nitric Acid (Technical Grade)

Post Apple Scientific - $21 for 500 mL of 70%

But there is a hazardous shipping fee of $25

Look under "Chemicals" in your yellow pages. I found two locally that list "acids".

They cary an Aquafortis solution suitable for gunbuilding. Track of the Wolf or most other builder supply sources will carry it or something similar.

I found several mentions across the web of using ferric nitrate crystals because they are much easier to get than nitric acid. (dissolving iron into nitric acid makes ferric nitrate solution)
