Here's one with nothing but store bought AQUA FORTIS and some linseed oil. Of course it has had heat applied before the oil was rubbed in.

I would like to see a picture of a Curly Maple stock that has had an Aqua Fortis treatment and BEFORE it has been stained............Daniel
With Aquafortis, there is no need for a stain...
Sometimes, period finishes had a reddish tint which enhanced the color, but not always.

Before and after aqua fortis - no finish applied yet in the first two pictures - just buffed with a towel. Oil finish applied on the last three pictures. Aqua fortis is 6 to 1 water to acid.

Here is a stock that was colored about 20 years prior to the picture with aqua fortis ONLY and linseed oil as a finish.
I say aqua fortis ONLY because many solutions people call aqua fortis is really a nitrate of iron solution made by adding iron to the nitric acid. This stock is nitrick acid and water only at about 1:5.
