Since J.P.Gemmer produced rifles in the 1860s would they be allowed at a Rendezvous? Most Rendezvous have an 1840 cut off date.

To my knowledge they would be alright it's still a cap-fire muzzleloader. There are some events that only allow flinters so it would fly there. The design of the Gemmers is still pre 1840

Rondys are not strict. There are those who make it sound like any event that is vaguely historical has strict rules. Not my experience at all.
Agreed. Most of the folks likely wouldn't be able to spot a "Gemmer style plains rifle" from other plains rifle styles..., and those that could, likely wouldn't care at a rondezvous.

Been there, done that and I will agree with @Loyalist Dave that at a Rondyvoo, we let such transgressions pass.

Note bene: A non historically correct gun (Gemmer Hawken or T/C Hawken et. al. in flint configuration) even if it is a flintlock would be excluded from use at the Winter Woods Walk at Fort de Chartres, but that is a different type of event with more restrictive usage requirements (pre 1770) than a typical Rendezvous such as the Rendezvous in June at Fort de Chartres. My 1803 Harper's Ferry Rifle would be excluded in November or April for that matter.

My second Eastern Primitive Rendezvous was the first one at GlenGarry W VA. I had a dog soldier give me crap about my Brogans, wanted to inspect to make sure they did not have plastic soles and heels, (they didn't) but at the time, there was a camp 30 ft away with an old hand crank wringer wash machine sitting out in the open. with a Coleman lantern hanging on a shiny aluminum hook. About 2 hours later, there was a h of an argument between dog soldiers the booshway and the family whose camp it was. The family pulled out the next day.. But another guy there had a giant green army surplus tent, which I think may have been a MASH tent. He was there all week.

Roundezvous rules vary by who is running it. Some are "thread counters" some are not.I did local ones for many years and heard all kinds of stories about how picky the Easterns were, when I finaly got enough vaction time to do an Eastern I discovered they were not as pick as the local ones I had been doing for years

There are a lot of modern factory produced "replicas" that are not really period correct. Most Rondys don't nitpick as long as it is not a cartridge gun or an inline.. You can also contact the boushway at the rondy website for most events and get clarification if you are concerned about a specific event.
