I made a little five minute video concerning loading and firing the flintlock that my wife uses at her elememtary school when they are studying the Revolution. We had an impass about bringing a firearm in and this was the solution.

I could go on at length as to why I belive the BP hobby is down but will say in general that it has little to do with ML as a sport and everything to do with changes in culture and lifestyle. The number of hunting licenses has declined by about 35% in the last 30 years also. Young folks spend only a fraction of the amount of time outside as they used to, and are twice as busy with sports, etc. There are plenty of kids who have never been in the woods beyond their local park with paved pathways. And, why go out of your way to go shooting outide when you can participate in the battle of Iwo Jima in 60 inch HD? A rhetorical question of course, but the times they have changed. Someone coming home with a ML and a couple of cans full of gunpowder is an increasingly foreign (and frightening) concept for most people these days. It's a shame really. All one can do is try and encourage those who show some glimmer of interest in the sport.
