I'm looking at picking up a new 2 band Enfield and am stuck between the two. The Armi Sport has a faster twist rate which leads me to liking it. Any opinions?

I have not had much experience with Two Band rifle muskets, but I have heard that Euroarms is the higher quality manufacturer of the two. I have a Euroarms 1853 pattern 3-band Enfield that has shot excellent from the factory with no modifications.

How tight does it group? Do you use balls or bullets?
Thanks for the help.

I seem to recall that Euroarms bought the original Parker-Hale machinery when the latter company went bust so they should be good.

I have a Euroarms 2-band that is very well made with a much nicer Italian walnut stock than the original Parker-Hales. It is a delight to shoot but the military pattern sights are awful with no windage adjustment being possible. My rifle shoots about 6" high and 6" right at 50 yards. Grouping? What's that? :haha:

The rate of twist differs between the 2-band and the 3-band (1 in 48 and 1 in 72 from memory - but I may be wrong).

The real 2-band proved more accurate in service than the 3-band but likes a heavier bullet. Parker-Hale produced a special mould that cast a bullet with a shallower base cup and thicker skirt. To the best of my knowledge, Lyman make a similar minié mould for the 2-band with a 'PH' suffix. Check their catalogue.

Being a cheapskate, I got hold of a second-hand Lee mould and cut the top off the base plug to create a similar effect.

David Minshall is the expert on these rifles and his 'Research Press' website has a link to a superb series articles on 'Managing the Enfield' by Bill Curtis that will tell you everything you need to know.

Hope this helps.

Here's the link to the site Brian referred to:

I think you'll find it very helpful. Just as an aside, I have a Euroarms Zouave that is very well made & accurate. I use a heavy (612gn) Minie, & it will keep thirteen shots in the 9/10 rings at 100m on a B-17 target. The only modifications I've made to the rifle are to lighten the trigger pull & to bed the barrel in a similar method to that mentioned in the 'Managing the Enfield' site.

I have an Armi Sport 2-band Enfield and really like it. I got it in August of 2006 -- my first gun of any sort!! I use about 60 grains of Goex ffg and a .577 minie lubed w/shotgun sealer or bore butter.

From 50 yards it is very accurate. Attached is a photo of my target during a shooting session last September. And that was a bad day for this rifle.

I have never tried the EuroArms so, admittedly, this is a one-sided opinion.

Next question, which usually shoots straighter? The two bands with their faster rifling or 3 bands with their longer barrel?

this is the armi sport two band the twist is 1 in 65-1/2" or 1 in 1660 mm i think the euroarms one is a 1 in 66 twist as well.
